Evolutions is an ongoing series of paintings by Terrill Warrenburg in which individual works are continuously reworked and layered over time. Rather than treating paintings as fixed endpoints, Warrenburg approaches each piece as a living surface—open to revision, erosion, and reassembly.

The works in Evolutions are often displayed in “groupings”, composed in direct response to the site in which they’re shown. Some canvases bear evidence of multiple earlier compositions buried beneath the final layer, while others are paired or clustered in dialogic arrangements that create rhythmic relationships across color, texture, and form. This modular, responsive format allows each exhibition to become an ephemeral constellation—never permanent, always in motion.

With Evolutions, Warrenburg treats painting as both document and process—an archive of touch, decision, and change.
